What is a good Ferritin level?

BioForge works to an optimal range rather than the lab's reference flag. For Ferritin that is 50–150, measured in ng/mL. A result inside the lab's normal range can still sit outside the range where most people feel and function well.

What the numbers mean

These are the ranges BioForge works to. They are not the same as a lab's reference range, which is built from the general population rather than from people who feel well.

Low

<30 · <50 = functionally low

Optimal

50–150

High

>400 · Functionally high above · 300

What moves Ferritin

Drained by blood donation and therapeutic phlebotomy, GI bleeding, and low iron intake. Falsely elevated by inflammation, infection, alcohol and fatty liver. Persistently high with high → saturation screen for hemochromatosis.
