AFP
Alpha-fetoprotein — a liver and germ-cell marker. Used to watch the liver in people with known risk, and as one input among several when something else on the panel is off.
What the numbers mean
These are the ranges BioForge works to. They are not the same as a lab's reference range, which is built from the general population rather than from people who feel well.
What moves AFP
Rises in pregnancy, in hepatitis and cirrhosis, with heavy alcohol use, and in germ-cell tumors. A modest rise in someone with fatty liver is common and usually tracks the liver enzymes rather than anything sinister.
