LDL Cholesterol

Measured in mg/dL

The familiar 'bad' cholesterol. Useful, but it measures cholesterol carried, not the number of particles doing the damage.

What the numbers mean

These are the ranges BioForge works to. They are not the same as a lab's reference range, which is built from the general population rather than from people who feel well.

Low
<40 · Uncommon
Optimal
<100 · <70 if high risk
High
>130 · >160 = high

What moves LDL Cholesterol

Saturated fat, genetics, underactive thyroid, kidney disease. Oral and some injectable androgens can raise it. Lowered by fiber, plant sterols, fat loss and medication.
