Zinc, RBC

Measured in mcg/dL — ICP-MS

Required to produce testosterone and to regulate the enzyme that converts it into estrogen. Measured inside the red cell, which reflects months of status rather than what you ate yesterday.

What the numbers mean

These are the ranges BioForge works to. They are not the same as a lab's reference range, which is built from the general population rather than from people who feel well.

Low
<800 · Check intake and gut
Optimal
1,000–1,400 · Lab interval 794–1,470
High
>1,470 · Usually supplementation

What moves Zinc, RBC

Falls with poor intake, gut malabsorption, heavy sweating, alcohol, and diuretics. Rises with supplementation. High-dose zinc drives copper down — the two compete for the same transporter, which is why we measure both together and why open-ended high-dose zinc is not a good idea.
